About Seedy Mike
Welcome to SeedyMike.com, a small-batch heirloom pumpkin seed project rooted in the Pacific Northwest and grown with a whole lot of dirt-under-the-fingernails passion.
Founded by Michael Merrill of MMco Design, Seedy Mike was created from a simple obsession: growing unusual, beautiful, heirloom pumpkins right here in Gresham, Oregon and nearby Hockinson, Washington. What started as backyard pumpkin experiments quickly turned into overflowing gardens full of colorful pumpkins, creative craft projects, floral arrangements, succulent displays, and community workshops through Gather Arts.
Our seeds are hand-grown, hand-harvested, and naturally pollinated by local bees. Because we grow heirloom varieties in open gardens without sprays or chemicals, some pumpkins may cross-pollinate naturally — meaning you might grow something wonderfully unexpected. We think that’s part of the magic.
We specialize in unique heirloom pumpkins with rich colors, sculptural shapes, and incredible character — perfect for:
-
Fall decorating
-
Pumpkin bouquets
-
Succulent arrangements
-
Autumn porch displays
-
Floral classes
-
Seed saving
-
Creative gardening projects
-
Delicious seasonal cooking
Growing Pumpkins in the Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest has a unique growing season, and timing matters. Around June 15th is prime pumpkin planting time for our region, especially throughout Oregon and Washington. Warm soil helps create stronger germination and healthier vines.
Basic PNW Pumpkin Growing Instructions
-
Plant seeds outdoors between June 1st – June 15th
-
Sow seeds about 1.5 inches deep
-
Choose a sunny location with room for vines to spread
-
Water thoroughly after planting
-
Keep soil consistently moist during germination
-
Pumpkins love heat, sun, and patience
Our heirloom seed packs typically contain 24 seeds or more with strong germination rates when planted correctly. Many of our varieties are open-pollinated heirlooms similar to traditional Blue Jarrahdale and decorative heirloom pumpkins grown for both edible and ornamental use.
More Than Just Pumpkins
At Seedy Mike, pumpkins are art supplies.
We’ll be sharing photos from our Gather Arts workshops showing how we transform heirloom pumpkins into:
-
Floral centerpieces
-
Succulent planters
-
Painted seasonal décor
-
Farm-style table displays
-
Holiday craft projects
-
Rustic wedding décor
We believe pumpkins bring people together — whether you’re gardening with kids, decorating your porch, hosting a fall dinner party, or creating art with friends.
